Solar Press Conference El Centro courtesy of Milholland Electric

Brian Milholland was in attendance at the Solar Press Conference in El Centro, where rooftop solar systems are being providing free of charge to low and fixed income families in Imperial County. Milholland Electric is the managing solar electric contractor handling the installations and maintenance.

El Centro resident Jo Ann Rodrigues Finley may be able set her home’s thermostat below 83 degrees Fahrenheit this summer, when temperatures will go above 110 and stay there for months.

Citizens Energy Corp., a nonprofit, is a partner with San Diego Gas & Electric on the Sunrise Powerlink transmission line, and is using proceeds from the line to fund the program. The group hopes to install rooftop solar electricity systems on 100 to 200 homes per year for the next 30 years, and to do so with local labor, said company founder and former Massachusetts Rep. Joseph Kennedy II.

Please share the good news that many unable to purchase a solar system in the imperial county will be receiving solar systems free.

Solar Power and the White House

I just read an article from ABC news that struck a chord. It deals with the solar panels that used to be on the White House. They were put on when Jimmy Cater was president to provide hot water to the White House.

In 1986 during the Reagan administration they were taken down so that the roof could be resurfaced and never put back up. In 2010 Obama announced that he was bringing back solar panel. To date this has not been done. With all the government involvement in renewable energy and solar, I find it difficult to understand why the White House has delayed using solar. The article is quite detailed and very good read.

Do you think there should be solar panels on the white? Please post your views.

Solar Roof Tile Fire Hazard – Consumer Product Recall

Some of these types of tile have been recalled

Presently there is U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission – Recall Alert

If you have or purchased a home with Solar Roof tiles this information is for you.

A number of 34 and 50 Watt solar roof tile solar systems which look similar the one pictured above have been recalled due to a fire safety hazard due to lose MC3 connectors.

If your roof contains the recalled products you should have been notified; however if this is news to you, a website and a phone line have been set up with information that may be helpful.

The website is http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml12/12725.html and the toll free phone number is 855 498-9441.

The latest information indicates that the 50 Watt panels “may” be warranted &/or corrected by the manufacturer. However, many of the 34 Watt product customers are having to resolve the problem on their own and turn off their system until the problem is corrected.

Check out the website above and call the toll free number.

We may be able to help; Solar Check and Milholland Electric Inc. provide solar system and solar panel repair, maintenance and cleaning. If you are having issues with solar roof tiles or if you need someone to inspect or repair your solar powered system give us a call for a no obligation consultation.
